The 3D Process
A 3D shoot requires a different approach to almost every aspect of production—from planning a shot to the grammar of editing. The most visible difference is the use of two linked cameras replicating the experience of the left and right eyes. Playback is through a single computer file played through a single digital projector. While special polarized glasses are still required in cinemas, numerous companies are working on technology that do away with glasses entirely. Most importantly, producing in 3D still enables playback in 2D where 3D projection technology is not yet available—delivering the “wow” factor of 3D and the penetration of 2D.
